DENIED BOARDING - EU
There are two types of denied boarding situations:
- Volunteer to give up your seat on the plane
When you volunteer to be bumped, the amount of compensation is not set by law so Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate! You are also entitled to a replacement flight. If you experience an overnight delay, demand that they provide you with a hotel room and transportation to the hotel and then again back to the airport the next morning.
- Involuntarily denied boarding
If the airline does not permit you to board the plane due to overbooking, you are entitled to:
- Compensation*
- Right to care services**,
- A replacement flight,
You can chose abandon your trip and receive a full refund of the flight (even on a non-refundable ticket)
*Compensation (compensation is not due if the airline gave you notice of the cancellation more than 14 days prior to the date of the flight):

Right to care services
- Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall
be offered free of charge:
- Food Services – meals and refreshments in a reasonable relation to the
waiting time;
- Accommodation services**– hotel accommodation in cases
— where a stay of one or more nights becomes necessary, or
— where a stay additional to that intended by the passenger becomes necessary;
- Transportation Services– transport between the airport and place of accommodation
(hotel or other).
- Communication Services – passengers shall be offered free of charge two telephone calls, telex or fax messages, or e-mails.
